Parents' Prayers For May

May 21  Bless them with dreams and visions

Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but blessed is he who keeps the law. (Proverbs 29:18)

Lord, may our children live with the dreams and visions from the Lord. You said that where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint. We pray that God's purpose may be planted in their hearts. May they find hope and dreams through the word of God and may they nurture them to fruition.

Help us to find and nurture our children's hopes and dreams. May their hopes, visions, and dreams be used for the Kingdom of God. May their visions uphold them in times of adversity. May they arm themselves with the Word of God, and may they power of darkness never prevail over their visions and dreams.

We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

May 22  Bless them to live truthfully

It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. (3 John 1:3-4)

Lord, you have taught us the principles of sowing and reaping. You are not pleased with our negativity and falsehood. You are never deceived by our schemes. Please teach our children the importance of being truthful so they may never deceive anyone or practice falsehood. Help them to search their own hearts to see if there is any deceit in them. May they never rejoice in their own or others falsehood.

Lord, you delight in sincerity and truth. Teach our children to know what is pleasing to you. Teach them to test their own hearts so they may live a life of steadfast sincerity. Help them to be truthful with their friends, their teachers, their spiritual mentors, and leaders. We live in a world where people lie and deceive to get ahead. Give them strength to remain truthful, even in a world like this.

We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

May 23  Teach us humility

Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. (I Peter 5:5-6)

Lord, you are merciful and gracious. Thank you for being our Lord today and for guiding us through another day. Thank you for watching over us moment by moment and for providing for our daily needs. We bow our heads with meekness before our provider God. We put down our pride before you, who are the Lord and owner of all things. Please teach our children the humility of Jesus, who came to be one of us although he was God. Help them to be like Jesus, who clothed himself in lowly humanity and obeyed the Father from whom have salvation.

We confess that it is not easy to remain humble. Although our spirits are willing, our flesh is weak. Lord, bless us with true humility so we may bear its fruits. In our efforts, help us not to have false or superficial humility, but rather, help us to be humble in Jesus so we may bear the fruits of humility.

We pray in the name of Jesus, who came to serve. Amen.

May 24  Help us to take responsibility for our words and actions

Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16)

Lord, you are faithful and merciful. We praise you for giving us this day. Forgive us for the times that we have praised you with our lips, but we didn't follow your words with our actions. Please forgive our children and help them to repent for the times they did not obey God's word. Please help them to live truthfully and sincerely.

Lord, your words and your actions are always consistent. Likewise, please help our children to have their words match their actions. Please teach them the concept of responsibility in all of their actions. First of all, please help them to take responsibility for their words and not pass on this own responsibility to others. Teach them to take responsibility even for words that were said in passing. May they never speak any falsehood. May their words and actions be used to advance the Kingdom of God. May they learn to be faithful in their words and actions just as the Lord was.

We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
