Parents' Prayers For July
July 21 When your enemy is hungry
give him food
If your enemy is
hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
(Proverbs 25:21)
Lord, thank you
for giving us our daily bread today. Thank you for providing such abundance
that we have no awareness of want. There are many brothers and sisters in the
world who are starving because they have no food. Many children around the
world are suffering because they have no food. Lord, help us to share our food
with others so there may no longer be starvation in the world.
Lord, give us your
love that makes it possible for us to share our food, even with our enemies.
Let us not fight evil with evil but overcome evil with good. Free us from
smugness of full bellies, and give us compassion for those who do not have
enough to eat. Help us to see the hungry with the eyes of God. Help us to have
faith that we are one in the Lord. Thank you for giving us this time of rest.
Help our children to pray, even for their enemies.
We pray in Jesus'
name, Amen.
July 22 Discard folly
As a dog returns
to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly. (Proverbs 26:11)
Almighty, Holy
Lord, thank you for calling us to be your children. We were previously children
of sin, but you have called us to become the children of God. Lord, help us to
live as the children of God. Although we were previously foolish, claiming that
there was no God, now we praise and worship the living God. Forgive us our past
sins, and help us to discard our folly.
Lord, grant our
children wisdom to discard their follies without a second thought. Free them
from repeating past follies. Replace their follies with your wisdom so they may
not go after the desires of the flesh. We believe that all things are possible
in you.
We pray in Jesus'
name, Amen.
July 23 Help us
to heed our friends earnest counsel
Perfume and
incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of one's friend springs
from his earnest counsel. (Proverbs 27:9)
Lord, you have
called us your friends and no longer your servants. Thank you for being our
friend, although you are God. Thank you for giving us the privilege of being called
your friends. Lord, help us to heed the earnest counsel of Jesus, our friend,
so we may not become foolish.
Lord, thank you
for giving our children close friends. May their friendships become like that
of David and Jonathan, who were friends for life. Lord, may they share with
each other their love, hurts, loneliness, and fellowship. Please help them to
meet friends of faith, who have earnest counsel to give. More than anything
else, give them friends who know God's word, so they may be admonished by his
words and accountable to each other.
We pray in Jesus'
name, Amen.
July 24 Take refuge from danger
The prudent see
danger and take refuge, but the simple keeping and suffer for it. (Proverbs
27:12)
Heavenly Father,
you are the Lord of history and time. We become uneasy and anxious about the
changes that are taking place in this century. We don't know how weapons of
mass destruction will affect the future of our world. And now that we have the
technology to genetically clone human beings, we feel wary of the disaster that
may come upon our children's generation as a result. Many places in the world
are experiencing famine, war, and earthquakes. We don't know when Jesus will
return. Lord, in such a time as this, give our children wisdom to see danger
and take refuge.
Lord, you are our
refuge and our shield. Grant us wisdom, discernment, and the word of God so we
may see danger in advance and be prepared to take refuge. Lord, please give us
relief from wars, famines, and earthquakes. Grant us your peace that can never
be taken away. Give us your true peace, which the world does not understand.
Give us this peace tonight. We pray in Jesus'
name, Amen.
